Three new trailers to evoke different memories

There has been a deluge of trailers in recent days, as if this is the last possible opportunity to reach out to the audience before everyone is swept away by the Star Wars movie. Or, it is just a coincidence. Nonetheless, there are three big budget movies who have launched their first trailers very recently, each one part of a franchise, each one capable of evoking strong emotions (good or bad) in us.

The first one of the lot to come out with a trailer was Independence Day: Resurgence. The sequel to the hit 1996 movie that is remembered for Will Smith punching an alien in its face amongst other things, brings back Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman though the star Will Smith opted out. I can’t blame him! The times are different altogether, and Will Smith gets to be more choosy about the roles he picks (After Earth, seriously?); he can skip what looks to be a man-versus-alien battle all over again with mindless action and quite possibly a senseless script. It worked once, back in 1996, when the cheesy dialogues looked cool on Will Smith, but it did not need a sequel. I am not too pleased with the trailer either, which gives away a little too much in my opinion, for a movie that would have had little in terms of plot to begin with. It appears Earth is under another extra-terrestrial threat, which Jeff Goldblum’s character had been anticipating for years, overseeing a defense program to counter such a threat. The question now will be  – how adequate is our defense? The trailer carries the famous President’s speech by Bill Pullman in Independence Day, evoking a sense of nostalgia, though the seriousness of the trailer makes it look less fun to watch. Roland Emmerich is directing the movie, which means large-scale action and great visual effects at the cost of a sensible plot. Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman return for their roles, while Liam Hemsworth is the leading man amonsgt the newcomers. Enjoy the trailer here!

Independence Day: Resurgence is scheduled for a release in the USA on June 24, 2016.

Star Trek series enters into its third phase of the reboot. The trailer for Star Trek Beyond has been released and it looks to be a whole lot of fun. J.J. Abrams, who directed the previous two movies of the rebooted franchise, has moved over to the Star Wars universe, and thus Justin Lin came in the director’s chair for the Star Trek franchise. Lin has made his name by bringing a freshness into the Fast & Furious franchise, having directed films 3 to 6 of the series, and you can sense the same excitement and craziness in Star Trek Beyond. The fans of the original series will of course get fits on seeing the pace of the newer movies, but then there is no pleasing everyone. Star Trek Beyond brings back Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto in their famous roles of Kirk and Spock, along with the old crew of Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg and Kal Urban. The trailer reveals Sofia Boutella as an alien creature, and a brief glimpse of Idris Elba as the new villain, though his avatar remains unexplained for now. The story has been kept under wraps, and there is a good deal of secrecy about it, which we can attribute to J.J. Abrams who is still part of the producer team. Star Trek Beyond nonetheless looks to be a great deal of fun and adventure, but at the same time, it will carry a certain dosage of drama and emotion. The trailer will give you a hint of what to expect!

Star Trek Beyond is scheduled to release in the USA on July 22, 2016.

It’s been more than four years since the final Harry Potter movie was released, and I am sure that many of you will not mind entering the wizarding world once again. That’s where Warner Bros. will take us in 2016 with the movie Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, the first in a planned trilogy. The name of the movie comes from a book of the same name that featured in the first Harry Potter story. It is supposed to have been written by Newt Scamander, a role that will be played by Oscar winning actor Eddie Redmayne in the movie. J.K. Rowling herself published a book of this name in 2001, though 0’Newt Scamander’ remains the author on the book. Now J.K. Rowling has written the screenplay for the movie which will feature the adventures of Newt Scamander that led him to write his book, which was read by Harry Potter about seven decades later. Despite being part of the same universe, the spin-off movie seems to have a freshness to it, bereft of the dark character Voldermort. The first released trailer does not reveal much of the plot, but can give you the goosebumps if you loved the Harry Potter series. Enjoy!

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is scheduled to release in the USA on November 18, 2016.
