1993 was the year when dinosaurs came back to life on a large scale, thanks to the creative genius of Steven Spielberg and his fantastic adaptation of Michael Crichton’s book Jurassic Park. The movie of the same title was a path-breaking one for the science-fiction genre, and is now widely considered a classic. Just like any classics, this movie too had a beloved set of actors playing some of the most memorable characters of cinema. More than 20 years later, Chris Pratt and gang enter Spielberg’s original world again in Jurassic World, but we wouldn’t be seeing any of the big fellows from the original film. So before Jurassic World hits the theatres, let’s have a look at what the original cast is upto nowadays.
Sam Neill as Dr. Alan Grant
Sam Neill did reprise his role in Jurassic Park III which released back in 2001. More recently, he was part of the BBC series Peaky Blinders, while in the film world, we see him usually in movies from Australian and his hometown New Zealand. He was part of the Australian film The Daughter that was shown recently at Sydney Film Festival. He has a couple of movies lined up for a release in 2015 and 2016. But fair to say, Sam Neill has strayed faraway from mainstream Hollywod cinema now.
Laura Dern as Dr. Ellie Sattler
Laura Dern has been part of lower budget films as well as established movie franchises in recent years, though in supporting roles. In 2014, she was part of the highly loved The Fault in Our Stars; she was later once again in the spotlight, when her performance as Reese Witherspoon’s mother in Wild led to an Oscar nomination. She is currently filming a movie titled Mothers Day for a 2016 release.
Jeff Goldblum as Dr. Ian Malcolm
I have to say that I will miss Goldblum the most from the original cast. The actor is quite busy though, and I have seen him as part of the ensemble cast in The Grand Budapest Hotel last year, as well as bring some quality to the otherwise poor Mortdecai this year. We’ll be seeing him soon return to another film that gave his career a boost, Independence Day 2.
Joseph Mazzello as Tim Murphy
The young scared kid from Jurassic Park has grown as an actor over the years, and was part of the cast in G.I. Joe: Retaliation. He is starring in his own directorial debut Undrafted, which narrates the story of the turnaround of a misfit baseball team.
Ariana Richards as Lex Murphy
Ariana Richards has gradually moved away from the world of movies, having worked on only three of them in the last 15 years. She now works as an artist and painter.
Samuel L. Jackson as Ray Arnold
Saving the world as Nick Fury, trying to destroy it in Kingsman: The Secret Service, and will probably mess around with it in the upcoming Tarantino film. A legend; there is no need to describe his established body of work!
Wayne Knight as Dennis Nedry
Wayne Night has been part of a few TV shows in recent times, the one going strong being The Exes.
Sir Richard Attenborough as John Hammond
Sir Richard Attenborough sadly passed away in August 2014 after having held a wonderful career as an actor and director.
