A full-length trailer for the 2015 animated film Peanuts has finally been released. The goofy characters from the famous comic strip of Charles Schulz will be seen now on a bigger screen, the mere thought of that gives me the goosebumps. But does the trailer do the same for me? Not entirely. The trailer has its moments, and we can see the reasons why we love the comics so much being recreated in this brief trailer, but it does not really give away much. Not only in terms of the story, but the tone and the shape that the movie is going to take. The movie is still a year away though, and so it makes sense in a way to not publicize the plot for now. Irrespective of all that, it is a Peanuts comic based film after all, so most of us will land up in the theatres whether we are satisfied by the trailer or not.
Here are some things worth knowing about the upcoming Peanuts film.
a) It is being created by Blue Sky Studios who are the creators of the immensely successful Ice Age series. The studio furnished a hit this year as well with Rio 2, though I wasn’t too gungho about the quality of that film. Last year’s Epic was a financial disappointment, and neither was it creatively noteworthy. I am sincerely hoping that the studio takes a positive turn with Peanuts, and brings back the magic that made the original Ice Age such a joy to watch.
b) Peanuts is being directed by Steve Martino who is no newcomer to the world of animation, having co-directed the 2008 film Horton Hears a Who!, and then 2012’s Ice Age: Continental Drift.
c) The story has been written by Craig Schulz and Bryan Schulz who are the comic strip creator Charles Schulz’s son and grandson, respectively. That evokes a bit of sentiment, doesn’t it?
Peanuts is scheduled to release in the USA on November 6, 2015. Enjoy the trailer for now!
