Around two years back, I had written a post on the roadblock that Matt Damon’s career had encountered, and how he needed a Jason Bourne more than the series needed him. The link to that post is here. Well, that was then. Things are much different now. Matt Damon has started picking up more interesting projects once again, led by good stories and some well-known directors. And yes, he has put on the Jason Bourne shoes once more! In 2014, Damon was part of the pretty huge cast in George Clooney’s The Monuments Men and then we saw him later in the year in Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar where his brief role left a strong mark. Matt Damon is now associated with four exciting upcoming projects, and if you love this actor, then this list would be worth memorizing.
The Martian (2015)
In 2013, Sandra Bullock had to survive being alone in space. This year it would be Matt Damon trying to survive on Mars after his character is thought to be dead and abandoned by his crew. The Martian is one of the highly awaited sci-fi movies of the year for quite a few reasons beyond Matt Damon’s presence. The movie is based on a very popular book of Andy Weir, which was a best-seller in 2014. It is being directed by Ridley Scott who knows a thing or two about the sci-fi genre (Alien, Blade Runner). The initial trailers have been promising, creating a strong positive buzz as the scheduled release date of early October approaches. Enjoy the latest trailer below!
Untitled Bourne movie (2016)
Matt Damon is returning to the world of Jason Bourne which he had left back in 2007 after giving a highly successful trilogy. Along with Damon, director Paul Greengrass will also be returning behind the cameras. The story for the film has been kept under wraps, which has had the desired effect of creating more excitement among the fans. Julia Stiles will also reprise her role, while the likes of Alicia Vikander and Tommy Lee Jones would be new faces on the sets. The movie is scheduled for a late July 2016 release, and so for now, one has to wait for the trailers to throw some light on the adventure that Jason Bourne will find himself in next.
The Great Wall (2016)
Matt Damon will star in The Great Wall which is an American-Chinese produced movie. He will be joined by famous Hong Kong actor Andy Lau as well as Willem Dafoe. The movie’s premise revolves around some secrets related to the construction of the Great Wall of China. Tony Gilroy, who wrote the screenplay for the Bourne movies, is the writer for The Great Wall too. There hasn’t been much revealed about the story, though these are still early times as the principal photography has just begun. Wait for the trailer here too.
Matt Damon will next be seen in Downsizing which is a comedy film in which a guy realizes he would have a better life if he were to shrink himself. The movie is going to star Reese Witherspoon, Neil Patrick Harris and Alec Baldwin as well. It will be directed by Alexander Payne who has worked on some critically acclaimed movies in recent years like The Descendants and Nebraska. This movie would be a good change from the serious roles that Damon usually plays. It is scheduled to be released in December 2017, and by then Damon would have picked up a project or two before the release of this movie.
Not a bad list, eh!?
