September, the beginning of the post-summer period, seems to have sucked out the interesting news items as well. So even we ain’t trying hard enough to look for them. This post is just for the die-hard Batman fans, or the Christopher Nolan fans, or the Christian Bale fans, or the ones who love them all. Who would find any tidbit to do with their favourite characters or film franchise as knowledge worth having. So listen up if you haven’t already, there is a 76-minute documentary about the films of The Dark Knight trilogy series set to be released with The Dark Knight Trilogy: The Ultimate Collector’s Edition Blu-ray package. That itself would be a reason to get excited about this Blu-ray version (as if the presence of a phenomenal movie wasn’t!). Now one of the things that has been revealed beforehand, is that the documentary holds the auditions of many actors who have been a part of this movie series. The obvious one that many would want to have a look at is the audition of the main man himself, Christian Bale, before production work began on Batman Begins. As it turns out the auditions for the role of Batman had to be done wearing the Val Kilmer donned suit in Batman Forever. While not as terrible as the subsequent George Clooney worn suit, the Val Kilmer suit too ain’t the kind one would ever want to see on the big screen again. Have a look for yourself.
Christian Bale though seems to have been born to play Batman. He worked his magic even in that suit, used the heavier Batman voice which became such a big factor in the movies, and well, Nolan saw the superhero Bale could turn out to be and gave him a better suit thankfully. As Nolan goes on to say, “I think Christian’s voice was a big part of the impression he made in the test. He had decided that Batman needed to have a different voice to Bruce Wayne, that he needed to put on a voice.”
Luckily, you don’t have to wait for the release of the Blu-ray version to have a look at this audition, for it has already been brought online. With more than 6 million Youtube views and counting, this is a joyous watch for any fan of the franchise. So in case you are one of the few who missed it, check out the video below. There is Amy Adams auditioning for the role of Rachel as well, which eventually went to Katie Holmes.
And remember, these are the initial steps that eventually lead to things great and mighty like… The Dark Knight franchise! Their importance should never be forgotten.
